During my copywriting career, I’ve written communications for BT on three separate occasions:

At Ogilvy Interactive in 2007, I worked on the ‘superhero’ campaign for BT Business IT Manager, writing a direct mail piece where business managers were sent a pair of red underpants along with the mailer.

During my 2010 contract at Ogilvy One, I completed a number of B2B and B2C communications for the brand.

At Communication by Design in 2012, I wrote internal communications for BT as an official sponsor of London 2012 Olympic Games.

To celebrate BT’s sponsorship of London 2012, we’re giving you the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness an iconic event: The Olympic Torch Relay.

Lighting up the UK

After reaching UK shores on 19 May, the Olympic torch will embark on an epic 70-day journey. It will travel through 1,000 cities, towns and villages – shining a light on all the UK has to offer and bringing the excitement of the Games to everyone.

An experience of a lifetime

The good news is that now you can experience this excitement, too. That’s because the torch is passing within walking distance of your site – take a look at the attached schedule for all the details. And we’re giving you time out of your working day to leave the office and go and cheer on your local torch bearers.

Highlighting your support

To make everyone feel more involved, you’ll receive some torch t-shirts to wear at the event. You can have some fun branding the shirts with your own message of support for Team GB and the Games.

What you need to do:

√ Take a look at the attached schedule to see when the torch will be in your area.
√ Get hold of your Site Directors and Call Centre Managers and help them to organise the event.
√ Hand out the t-shirts and get your colleagues to write their own messages of support for Team GB and the Games with the pens provided.
√ Get them into their shirts and out of the door.
√ Organise them to line the route in time to see the torch.
